Thank God for Sunday Moms
Let’s paint a familiar picture. The mother wakes up before everyone else, has kids’ clothes set out neatly for Sunday morning (or she is scrambling through the laundry bin, depending on her week), she prepares breakfast, gets the kids up, fixes her hair, fixes their hair, takes a shower (if she has time), puts on her make-up (again, if she has time), dresses the kids, dresses herself, goes to worship, and then? Well, mom’s work is not done, is it? That’s just before worship! Of course, there are husbands who do help and pitch in, but regardless Sundays are a very busy day for Godly mothers.
The truth is that all Godly mothers, young and old, have contributed a great deal to the continued growth of the Lord’s body, because without Sunday moms the church would lose its heart. Sunday mothers are the backbone of the church, inspiring and encouraging their families to worship the Lord, love the Lord, and honor him each and every day. Even those whose children are grown, or do not have children of their own, still teach, encourage and help raise children of God as they are there every Sunday to provide their example and their heart to young and old alike. Proverbs 31 mentions the worth of a woman and mother who honors the Lord and the writer of this proverb is writing what his mother taught him about what to look for in a Godly woman. Listen to the conclusion of this mother of a king about Godly mothers:
Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: "Many daughters have done well, But you excel them all." Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, And let her own works praise her in the gates.
It is not enough to thank Sunday mothers, or to honor them. We must also give them the respect that they deserve and never take them for granted. This week, as the world praises mothers, let us remember the beauty and grace of Sunday mothers young and old, who teach our children, encourage our leaders, and love our savior not only on Sundays, but every day of the week. Thank God for Sunday moms!
